Philippine SONA: Identiying and Recommending IT/CS Solutions

Effective Population Control for Economic and Social Development

Over population is one of the major problems of our country today. It also causes many problems such as food shortage, lack of proper shelter, etc.. Answering to this problem may improve the state our economy as well as improving the lives of the Filipino.

Objectives:

  • to determine the severeness of the problem in terms that can be acknowledged and aspire greater concerns for the people involved and responsible.
  • to determine the significant factors contributing to the severeness of the problem
  • to design an effective solution or framework to control the population
  • to come up with an IT solution in registering families specially in the rural areas and could determine the financial capacity of the parents/ guardians
  • to create a research that could make not only the government but also the local people to be aware and take immediate and proper actions

Food Production and Distribution Management

Food shortage is another concern for the people specially when the country is dependent on agricultural productions like ours. This food sources are very vulnerable to natural phenomenons like typhoons as well as man-made/ motivated harm, i.e. price control and supply hoarding. The government must take actions to ensure that food are produced and distributed properly. Protections must be placed so no harm can be done in this sensitive area.

Objectives:

  • to determine the main causes of the local food shortages
  • to determine the vulnerable areas of food distribution
  • to determine the factors that contributes to the price increase
  • to create a solution to monitor important transactions such as food distribution/delivery and production
  • to create a framework for better food production and distribution system

Proper planning for Government Project developments

Most of the government projects in our country are coupled with scandals and issues of corruption. This is because most of the projects are done with poor planning and inadequate information. The project details are also not shared to the concerned people thus aspiring suspicions and doubts. Proper planning through simulation can grant answers to these problems as well as in controlling costs so no money are wasted thus shutting down the creation of doubts and suspicions.

Objectives:

  • to determine the logical factors of proper planning
  • to determine the major concerns of government projects
  • to create a framework for proper planning of government projects
  • to determine the advantages and benefits of simulating of government projects before the start of the development
  • to encourage the local government to use simulation or other IT solutions

Understanding Methods and Methodology

Many clear definitions can be derived from varying sources. These definitions should concisely define each term and would be understandable by itself. The only difference that can be derived from the two terms from their definitions is the idea itself. While METHODS can be defined as the process itself, METHODOLOGY is defined on the concept of the “methods” by specifying it as a system, practices or principles.

Evaluating the Work of my Co-bloggers

In this activity, I would like to choose the work of Robert Marvin Lee, “Addictive Using Internet”. My primary reason is mainly on the fact that it reflects most of the reality in youth today, maybe some on adults. His review of the research materials are direct and straightforward. Although, there are few citings from the references, I have observed that he directly used some ideas, statements from the sources while adding some personal insights to the idea itself. It can be clearly depicted as a work of an amateur, most likely a student’s. But the review portrays a friendly feeling for casual readers. It does not necessarily provoke your mind into delving too much into the topic and ending up straining your mind by making you think. Overall, I found the work very interesting and good to read.

Identifying Important Factors for Top-tier Publishing

There are many factors in publishing top-tier journals and publications like in IEEE and ACM. The most common ones are the standards, which the material is rated and evaluated. These standards involve basic factors such as the significance of the research itself.,etc. However, I found out another common factor that maybe unique to each organization. There is a process in which the material submitted undergo a detailed review usually followed by a formal process of evaluation following a uniform criteria. Evaluation for technical accuracy is still required but a process which determines the materials readability is used for selected audience. These processes maybe used by many organizations but its procedures maybe distinct from each other.
There is also an informal review or process in which the material is evaluated for its individual significance and gaining an individual assesment for the said material. From the perspectives of the peers from the organization like EiCs, there may be a necessary revisions asked of the author. There are also publishing of unreviewed materials in which the original content is published with or without copyediting. The reasons for this may be procedural.

Evaluation: Finding the good ones..?

There are already numerous guidelines or standards in evaluating a good research paper. Each organization or areas has its own unique or different way of evaluation according to the specific area of research topic. Even though there are many process or guidelines of evaluating research papers as there are many areas of concern of a research topic, they have a common similarity, which you could say the very important factor of all. It is important to state that even though a research paper is carefully and majestically done and presented, the most significant thing a research is its contribution to the human knowledge or its effect on the focused area. To add to this point, you may produce and present a research paper according to the standards or expectations of the evaluator but the point of the research must not be disregarded, which is the product and aim of the research itself. In general terms, for a research paper to be generally good and efficient, it must address to solve or help solve a significant problem and/or contribute to the addition of human knowledge. And all other things must only come after that.
